Cloth and Betrayal

Cloth and Betrayal

WHO AM I?    בגד         בגד                                                                                                       Beged  -  Bagad      I believe there’s a connection between an article of clothing and betrayal. It all started with a cup of homemade cappuccino. If you love coffee, especially cappuccino, you know its real treat.       Usually, it’s a time in the day when...

Honor your Father and Mother. What for?

Honor your Father and Mother. What for?

“Be respectful, apologize to your mother. That’s not a way to treat your Mother” “You should be ashamed of yourself, It’s your father, show him some respect…… go to your room” Did you hear these words come out of your parents or your friend’s parents? Generally, if you are the child, you’d leave the room upset, probably making weird faces or even sticking your tongue out (of course without them seeing you) or even crying and yes, at those moments hating them too. On the other side, if you are the parent, you wonder how did you child grow up to be...

Tallit- We all got it wrong

Why would I say such a thing?   That was one of my AHA! moments. It totally changed my perspective about the Tallit. As an artist who creates Tallitot, I feel more than ever the importance of everyone owning and using their Tallit. In my mind, I’m trying to understand why I didn’t realize it earlier. Happy Lag BaOmer - Black potatoes jumping in the fire

Voices of excited children are all around, adults smiling and all are very busy collecting wood, dry shrubs and branches from different trees, logs, newspapers, and even furniture (a great way to get rid of broken pieces one wants to donate). It was a spectacular site to see the first flames, it looked almost like fireworks, but had the special sound you hear when wood is crackling and burning. That was one of the best Holidays we enjoyed growing up as children...

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Today is Israel’s Memorial Day Eve, in honor of the soldiers we lost in the wars, combats, missions, training. It always starts the evening before our Independence Day (called Yom Hatzmaut ) evening, so one day follows the other.  As an Israeli living in the USA, bearing and raising my two children here, I have a hard time with the way Memorial Day is conducted here. I want to ask for your input to help me understand why it is this way. As far as I can remember, we children and adults learned about—or should I say tattooed on our...

Reflections on Passover

Reflections on Passover

What the best thing on the Passover table, the one we all love? Of course, it’s the Charoset. That yummy paste takes away all the misery of waiting and waiting for food, to realize at the beginning of the Seder we are actually only dipping parsley in salty water. That would bring tears to anyone’s eyes. The Charoset, what a delicious concoction! The Charoset is the reminder of the mortar the Israelites used for making bricks in Egypt. Did you ever wonder why the Charoset is sweet, since making bricks is not a happy, sweet thing? I am sitting in my...
